Ruslaan impersonator fools a girl

It was a call that shocked Ruslaan Mumtaz. A young girl from Kolkatta told him that how she had practically agreed to marry a man thinking he was Ruslaan.

Apparently this guy impersonated as Ruslaan on a social networking site and got talking to this girl. Over a period of time she got close to him and asked her to come down to Chennai promising marriage to her. He said that he had given up films and moved to Chennai for good. The girl's joys knew no bounds and was on the brink flying down to Chennai till she watched Ruslaan on a channel attending an award function held abraod recently. She somehow got hold of Ruslaan's number and called him.

Confirming the incident Ruslaan said, "She cried her heart out, while I stood shocked. "Had i not to watch the award function I would never have known that I was talking to an imposter" she said. I told her that I was very much in the film industry and moving to Chennai out of question. I just want girls not get fooled like this and use thier discretion before striking a conversation with someone."

Ruslaan Mumtaz air-dashed to Singapore recently. Talking about his trip Ruslaan said, "It was a holiday that I was looking forward to. I had a ball of a time with my friends. I particularly enjoyed walking down the Orchard Street. That is where I shopped and bought loads of jeans and shoes. I also visited the Sentosa island. It was a treat."

Ruslaan is a travel freak and loves to explore different places in the world. "I remember flying down to Africa to shoot an ad. It was a four day schedule. But after shooting it I stayed back for fifteen days to explore South Africa. It was a great feeling to know about the food culture and the people."

Ruslaan also enjoyed eating to his hearts content. "I am a fitness freak and follow a strict diet. But that one week I just gorged on some of the most delicious Singapore food,," he said.

Back home the actor has hit the gym. "I enjoyed my vacation. But back home I have cut down on food. Need to get back in shape," he laughed.

You’re my everything, Mummy: Ruslaan Mumtaz

I grew up in a hostel in Panchgani, so there wasn’t an overpowering influence of my mother’s acting career, but when she did come visit me, which was as often as she could, I suddenly realised what a big deal being an actor was. The whole school would be running behind her for her autograph and that made me swell up with pride,” opens Ruslaan Mumtaz as we catch up with him on the eve of Mother’s Day.

Ruslaan Mumtaz has a lot to be thankful for, near-perfect good looks, a budding career in Bollywood, several fans across the country, including our city of Bangalore and a family that’s stayed together and continues to be adorably happy.

“As a child, my first memories of mummy as an actress were these scenes I vividly remember from Khatron Ke Khiladi, where ma was the heroine opposite Dharmendra — those scenes still play in my mind, whenever I think of her as an actress. But she never let it get to me. I was never the quintessential star-kid,” Ruslaan reminisces.

We prod further and ask Ruslaan to describe how his childhood was. “I was spoilt, I agree. Thoroughly spoilt, and I always fought with my mom. Imagine how horrible I was. I was a non-veg lover and refused to eat anything the cook prepared. My mother had to cook different dishes for my lunch and dinner, as I would refuse to eat the same thing and then leave for work. She would wake up by 5am every morning and cook, look after the house and then leave for her shoots. She drove herself there everyday and here I am, half her age, being driven around Mumbai by a driver! She’s a goddess and I can never thank her enough for all that she’s done. Can you imagine how amazing a woman she is, to have never even once complained about all these extra duties weighed down upon her?” Ruslaan says. “But I am now wiser, thank god and so I have tried to make up for all my shaitaani as I was growing up,” he adds.

So has mummy been the best influence yet, we ask and pat comes the reply, “without comparison! If I had a child like me, I am sure I am going to be super strict with him and force him to eat what’s served (laughs)… you know, as kids, we’re hardly ever aware of what our parents go through for all of us, and we never give them credit. I’d like to balance that account and do as much for my mom as she’s done for me. Not because this is some trade-off… but more because she deserves it and so much more.”

With just a few minutes left, we quickly ask Ruslaan of what his message to his mommy dearest would be this Mother’s Day and he indulges us.

“Two years ago, I forgot to wish my mummy on Mother’s Day and everyone else in the world seemed to have remembered. My mom was super-pissed with me and ever since I have had a fear of missing the occasion. Two days ago also I was suddenly startled when someone misled me to believe that I had missed it again, thankfully I hadn’t! Since then, I’ve been asking ma as to what she’d like to do and she never really tells me what she wants. I’m too frightened to buy her anything as I’m sure she’ll tell me either I have been cheated or that she could have bought it for cheaper and so I am just going to take her out for a day at the mall. Make her choose her own stuff, buy it for her and do something else to spend the day together with her. I’m sure that will make her happy, mom’s are after all, the easiest to please,” Ruslaan concludes.

For Ruslaan Mumtaz, style is all about comfort and colours

For actor Ruslaan Mumtaz, style is all about comfort and colours...

1. My style would be defined by comfortable clothing doused in a lot of bright colour.

2. I have a fetish for shoes and my current favourite brand is Aldo. I also adore shoes from Caterpillar and have five pairs of the same style in different colours. I buy my sports shoes from Nike.

3. I have a collection of 30 watches. At one point I had so many watches that I started gifting them to my friends and family. My favourite watch is from Guess.

4. I don’t like accessorising a lot but I just sport one silver band with six small diamonds which sums up to around one carat — it’s a total attention clincher and I love that!

5. I am not too keen about skin or hair products, but if I have to, I usually stick to L’Oreal and Nivea.

6. It’s important to smell good and so, I invest a lot in my perfumes. My favourite brands are Gucci and Davidoff.

7. I hate traditional clothes but if it is a traditional occasion I would wear something which is a fusion of Indian and western styles.

8. For a special occasion, I would wear a pair of my favourite jeans and a t-shirt paired with a jacket and loafers. But if it’s something more special, then I’d go in completely suited.

9. For clothing I prefer brands like Jack and Jones, River Island and Top Man and I buy my designer clothes from Sameer Patel. I love V-neck t-shirts and think they really make me look sexy.

10. For the summer, it’s all about colour, linens and cottons and I love experimenting like mad during this season.

Karisma Kapur is hot: Ruslaan Mumtaz

He’s grown up idolising a lot of actors from the Hindi film industry and one of them has been Karisma Kapur. So, when film-maker Vikram Bhatt offered actor Ruslaan Mumtaz a role in Dangerous Ishq, saying no wasn’t an option. And every moment of shooting has been an experience for the young actor.

“I think Karisma looks hotter now than she did earlier. At the cost of sounding rude, I still say that I couldn’t take my eyes off her,” he confesses, adding, “ConsideringDangerous Ishq is a comeback film for her, it’s amazing to see the amount of hard work she’s put behind every scene. There’s so much to learn from her.”

An attempt to move on is thwarted and Ruslaan goes on, “What’s even better is how she successfully manages her kids and work; they would come to the sets at times and she would be the doting mom before shifting focus to the next scene. And when they weren’t around, she was always kept in the loop about them.”

Dangerous Ishq, a 3D film, boasts of an interesting ensemble cast.

“When Vikram approached me with the role, I was excited mainly for two reasons — first, working with Karisma and second, shooting on 3D. I had seen his Haunted on 3D and thought it looked even better because of the format,” he explains. Of course, working with an ensemble cast and Vikram were a bonus. “Vikram makes sure his actors are perfectly at ease and goes the extra mile to connect even beyond work,” informs Ruslaan, adding, “And having a set full of actors is always fun for a fresher like me. Not only do you get to learn so much from watching them, you also are more relaxed when it comes to work.”

Ruslaan, who made his debut in 2007 with Mera Pehla Pehla Pyar, has had just a handful of releases since then, along with a few television commercials. He also co-hosted the last season of IIFA.

Quiz him whether he should pull his socks up when it come to the number of films and he states, “Yes, at hindsight I think I said no to too many films. If I hadn’t done so, I would have quite a few releases by now. But it’s never too late.”

Ruslaan Mumtaz was indicted in an MMS scandal not too long ago, will act in a film based on the infamous sex MMS of 2004

Ruslaan Mumtaz, who a few months ago, was embroiled in an MMS scandal with Salma Agha's daughter Sara, is now shooting a film based on the infamous 2004 MMS scandal that involved two school-going children from New Delhi.

The incident shook the nation and brought to light the heightened use of technology among the youth. It also served as inspiration for two films -- Anurag Kashyap's Dev D and Dibakar Bannerjee's Love Sex Aur Dhokha.

The new film, called I Don't Love U, is being directed by ad man Amit Kasaria. It will however, recreate the events of the 2004 scandal.

Speaking from Delhi where the film is being shot, Ruslaan says, "It's a college love story with an MMS as the conflict point. It is inspired by the 2004 MMS scandal, where a video of two school goers having sex was leaked on the Internet."

Model-turned-actress Chetna Pandey plays Ruslaan's co-star in film, and the movie, we hear, will leave little to imagination.

Says Ruslaan, "It isn't a scandalous film. But we will shoot the MMS-clip sequence carefully. You see, the boy had shot the clip without showing his face. We will shoot it exactly the same way. My face won't be visible. But we will be caught in the act."The original clip is easily available on the Internet.

The story will be told from the point of view of the children, who will be portrayed as victims. The boy's phone is shown to get misplaced, and the MMS is leaked all over the net. "It's not about the scandal. It's about the trauma," says Ruslaan.

What about the trauma that Ruslaan went through when he was accused of leaking an MMS clip?

"That wasn't me in the clip. But yes, I am no stranger to MMS scandals," he replies.
